Numerous best times and District cuts garnered by East in loss to Henderson

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

While the final team scores were not in our favor, the East boys and girls put up some stellar performances last night against perennial powerhouse West Chester Henderson. The boys dropped to 5-1 on the season, while the girls now post a 4-2 record.

Kicking off the meet, the quartet of Victoria Maki, Cady Kiebort, Finley Mulhern, and Alexa Fulton handily won the 200 Medley relay and picked up the District consideration cut. The same four girls also got the 200 Free relay District cut with a second-place finish. Kiebort went on to win the 100 fly and placed 3rd in the 200IM achieving her first two District cuts of the season. Fulton won the 100 free and placed 2nd in the 200 free, while Maki placed 2nd in the 100 back and picked up a new District cut in the 50 free also with a second-place finish. In the diving competition, Rachael Laraio placed second with a score of 202.35.

Other notable performances came from Reya Petrick who had best times in both the 100 free and 100 back, Sydney Greene with time drops in 50 free and 100 free, Ella Hagelauer in the 200 IM and 100 free, Elizabeth Kabatt in the 100 breast, and Shaili Kayada in the 100 free.

While the boy's team did not post any individual event wins, they had many best times last night. In the 200 free, Luke Sperling placed 2nd with a 7-second drop, followed by Gabe Carroll and Jack Thompson (who also swam a best time). Our 200 IM swimmers all posted best times, with Matt DiAddezio capturing 2nd place and adding a 2nd place in the 100 fly with a best time. Aidan McIlroy finished 2nd in the 50 free, while George Liu and Leo Wu posted best times in that event. Sophomore Gabe Carroll narrowly missed a District time in the 100 free with a second-place finish. In the 100 back, Sperling added a second-place finish and another time drop, while Niall Richards followed him in third with a season-best time. Thompson added another best time in the 100 breast, as did teammate Leon Dang. Unfortunately, the boys did not have any divers at the meet due to illness.

Some other notable performances came from Andrew Detwiler who had best times in the 200 free and 500 free, Akash Krishnan in the 200 IM, and Zach Fidlon in the 100 free.

The East team is back in action next week on Monday 1/31 vs. Avon Grove (at Lincoln University) and at home vs. West Chester East on Wednesday 2/2.
