The Cougars opened their season with a strong showing against American Division rival, Kennett High School.
The Women's team opened by finishing 1,3,4 in the 200 Medley Relay and went on to have each competitior finish in the points for nearly all of reminder of the meet. The ladies swept the 50 Free event with Kayla Terry (Sophmore,) Riley Petrick (Sophmore, )and Avery Williams (Freshman) finishing 1,2 & 3. Natalie Kibalo (Freshman) touched first in the 100 Fly (1:07.50) with Aubrie Wilson (Senior) behind her for 2nd place (1:07.73.) Ava Sgarra (Junior - Captain) took first in 200 IM (2:15.25) and 100 Breaststroke (1:10.88,) both times earning her District Consideration cuts. The Ladies defeated Kennett 108-74.
The Men's team also started their season off with a win from Joe Griffiths (Freshman,) Matt DiAddezio (Senior - Captain,) Niall Richards (Senior - Captain) and Connor Kiebort (Senior) in the 200 Medley relay (1:47.26.) Notable perfomances from the men include 2nd places for Andrew Fulton (Sophmore) in 200IM (2:12.74,) and Kiebort in 50 Free (23.78.) In 100 Fly, DiAddezio (56.89) and Aurele Gerber-Tissot (Freshman) finished first and second while Griffiths (1:07.86) and Richards (1:14.48) took the 100 Breaststroke. In 100 Free, Sam Sperling (Junior - Captain) touched first (50.32) earning a District consideration cut with Charles O'Hara (Sophmore) just behind him in 51.76. Sperling also earned a second Consideration cut in the 200 Free (1:50.22) The Men defeated Kennett 112-68.
All of the Diving tonight belonged to East. For the Ladies, Avery Surden and Joya Mentrikoski (Sophmores) turned in impressive exhibition scores of 155.65 and 196.95, respectively. Third place went to Paige Wilson (Freshman - 163.25,) Second to Jillian Fuchs (Sophmore - 198.90) and First to Senior and Captain Rachel Laraio with a total of 261.55. This score also earned Laraio a District Considertaion cut and set a new Team Record for 6 Dives, breaking her previous record of 260.20, set last season. For the men, congratulations to Niall Richards and Jack St. Germain for their season opening scores of 120.80 and 105.50.
The Cougars are back in action on Tuesday December 10th when they travel for their first meet against Perkiomen Valley!
