East swimmers perform well at ChesMont Invite

Saturday, the girls and boys swim teams participated in the Scott Elliott ChesMont Invitational at West Chester University. For some, this was their end-of-season championship meet, while others will be heading to the District 1 championship meet in two weeks.

The quartet of Niall Richards, Jack Thompson, Leo Wu, and Connor Kiebort kicked off the meet with a 6th place finish in the 200 medley relay. Luke Sperling had two big time drops and finished 6th in the 200 free and 7th in the 100 back, narrowly missing the District cut in both events. Matt DiAdezzio touched in 6th place with a best time in the 200 IM and added a 4th place finish and another best time in the 100 breast. Gabe Carroll finished 5th in the 50 free and 4th in the 100 free. In the 100 butterfly, George Liu was 7th overall, while Colin Drummond and Leo Wu turned in top 20 finishes. Jack Thompson (8th), Leon Dang (12th), and Andrew Detwiler (23rd) all swam best times in the 100 breast.

The girls also had some impressive performances in the afternoon session. The A medley relay of Victoria Maki, Finley Mulhern, Cady Kiebort, and Alexa Fulton improved their District seed time by over a second and finished 2nd to a strong WC Henderson squad. The B relay of Reya Petrick, Elizabeth Kabatt, Kate Gersbach, and Sydney Greene also improved on their entry time and finished 12th overall. Fulton had a 2nd place finish in the 200IM and won the 100 breast, improving both of her season-best times. Maki was the runner-up in the 100 free with a 2.5 second time drop and a District consideration cut, while teammate Kiebort swam a season-best time in the 100 fly, good enough for 5th place overall. Fulton, Maki, Greene, and Kiebort teamed up for second-place and a 1.5-second improvement on their District seed time in the 200 free relay. Greene (24th) and Melanie Liu (34th) both posted season-best times in the 100 free, while Aubrey Wilson (24th) and Ella Hagelauer (30th) had best times in the 100 back. Mulhern narrowly missed the District consideration time with a 12th place finish in the 100 breast and Kabatt had a season-best time and a 16th place finish in that event.

Next up will be the District 1 meet to determine the qualifiers to the PIAA State Championships in March. East will be sending three divers to the District 1 competition - Jack Hackett, Mitchell Goldman, and Rachal Laraio. The swimming competition will take place in two weeks at York YMCA. The boys have qualified Gabe Carroll, Aidan McIlroy, Jack Thompson, Luke Sperling, Matt DiAddezio, George Liu, and Connor Kiebort. The girls will send Alexa Fulton, Victoria Maki, Finley Mulhern, Cady Kiebort, and Sydney Greene.

Go EAST!
