East swim & dive splits with Avon Grove, boys move to 5-0

The girl's team (4-1) lost their first meet of the season, falling to a strong Avon Grove squad by a score of 105-80. The boys remained undefeated (5-0) on the season winning with a score of 90-59.


Senior Victoria Maki had a pair of firsts (100 back and 200 free relay) and seconds (200 free and 400 free relay), improving her district time in the 200 free. Fellow senior, Cady Kiebort added a second place finish in the 200 IM and won the 100 fly with a district consideration time. She joined Maki on the 200 free and 400 free relays with sophomore Sydney Greene and freshman Ellie Reese. Greene and Reese placed 2-3 in the 50 free and 3-4 in the 100 free events. Rachel Laraio won the diving competition, with teammates Courtney Jefferis and Gabby Aceto placing 3-4.


Other notable performances from the girls included a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (Lucille Obenski, Finley Mulhern, Aubrie Wilson, and Reya Petrick), Hayley Heckler (3rd 500 free), Obenski (3rd 100 back), and Mulhern (3rd 100 breast).


The boys were once again led by a strong performance from junior, Gabe Carroll, who won the 200 and 100 free events and added in wins on the 200 free relay (with Luke Sperling, Connor Kiebort, and Matt DiAddezio) and the 400 free relay (with Luke and Sam Sperling, and Kiebort). George Liu picked up two individual event wins in the 50 free and 100 fly and was on the winning 200 medley relay (with Sam Sperling, DiAddezio, and Kiebort) and the second place 200 free relay (with Andrew Fulton, Niall Richards, and Leo Wu). Jack Thompson and Lucas Respicio finished 1-2 in the 100 breast and Niall Richards finished 2nd in diving.


The East boys had several other top performances from Luke Sperling (2nd 200 free, 3rd 100 back), Andrew Fulton (3rd 200 and 100 free), Sam Sperling (2nd 200 IM, 2nd 100 back with a district cut), Leon Dang (3rd 200 IM), Connor Kiebort (2nd 50 free), Matt DiAddezio (2nd 100 fly), Joseph Zeng (3rd 500 free).


The team will travel to Coatesville next Wednesday for their next dual meet at 3:30pm.
