East Swim and Dive opens 2022 season with wins over Kennett

The girls' and boys' teams defeated Kennett HS yesterday at home to open up the winter season. The girls, led by a strong performance by senior Victoria Maki, won by a score of 102-76. Maki won the 200 free and 50 free events and added two wins as a member of the 200 medley and 400 free relays. Junior Reya Petrick picked up the win in the 100 freestyle and added a second-place finish in the 100 back. Petrick also led off the winning 400 free relay with teammates Sydney Greene, Hayley Heckler, and Maki. Freshman Lucille Obenski had an impressive showing in her first high school meet with a second-place finish in the 200IM and a win in the 100 back. She also led off the winning 200 free relay with teammates Ellie Reese, Heckler, and Finley Mulhern. Courtney Jefferis took top honors in the girl's diving event.


The boys outpaced Kennett by a score of 94-77 and picked up several District 1 consideration cuts in the first meet of the year. Junior Gabe Carroll led the charge with individual wins and district cuts in the 50 free and 100 fly. He also was a member of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays which also achieved the district standard. Matt DiAddezio also had a strong showing, winning the 200 IM and 100 breast and swimming on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays. He and Jack Thompson garnered district cuts in the 100 breast with a close 1-2 finish. Thompson added a win in the 500 free and was a member of the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays. Senior Luke Sperling touched first in the 100 back and was runner-up in the 200 free.


The East team returns to the Lionville YMCA pool on December 7th to take on Great Valley HS at 3:30PM.
