The Downingtown East Swim & Dive team kicked off the 21-22 season with wins over Kennett High School on Friday. The girls won by a score of 108-76 while the boys held off a strong Kennett team with a score of 96-87.
The girls started off the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay (Petrick, Mulhern, Gersbach, Kiebort). Cady Kiebort picked up two more individual event wins in the 200 Free and the 100 Butterfly while sophomore Finley Mulhern outpaced the field in the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke. Petrick went on to win the 100 Free and picked up a second place in the 100 Backstroke, and combined with Mulhern, Kiebort, and freshman Aubrie Wilson for a win in the 200 Free Relay. Freshman Adithi Kashyup, competing in her first high school meet, earned the top spot in the 500 Free followed by teammates Abby O'Donnell and Ella Hagelauer in second and third. The East girls swept the top three places in the diving competition led by Rachel Larain, Courtney Jefferis, and Gabby Aceto.
In the boy's competition, senior Aidan McIlroy was a triple winner, including wins in the 50 and 100 free events (both earning District consideration times) and the 200 Free relay with Leo Wu, Gabe Carroll, and George Liu. Jack Thompson added a win in the 500 Freestyle, while teammates Matt DiAddezio, Leon Dang, and Akash Krishan swept the 100 Breaststroke event. Mitchell Golman and Jack Hackett finished 1-2 for East in the diving competition.
The team will face off against Great Valley this Wednesday, Dec. 15th at the Lionville YMCA (3:30PM start). Go East!!
