East splits with West in the final dual meet of the season

The East boys beat Downingtown West by a score of 105-75 to finish 8-1 on the dual meet season. The girls fell to 4-5 on the season with a heartbreaking 94-92 loss to West. There were many great swims and dives by both teams as we move into the Championship season.

For the girls, the 200 medley relay team of Victoria Maki, Finley Mulhern, Alexa Fulton, and Cady Kiebort took home the win and improved their district consideration time. Maki went on to win the 200 free and the 100 back, while Fulton swam season-best times to win the 100 free and 50 free. Kiebort touched first in an exciting 100 fly, while Mulhern took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke. The same foursome improved their 200 free relay time and picked up the win. Other highlights included a 2-3 finish by Sydney Greene and Reya Petrick in the 100 free, and a 1-2 finish for Rachel Laraio and Courtney Jefferis in the diving competition.

The East boys started the meet with an impressive win in the 200 medley relay behind the strong performances of Jack Thompson, Matt DiAddezio, Aidan McIlroy, and Gabe Carroll. In the 200 free, Carroll and DiAdezzio finished 2-3, while George Liu and Thompson went 1-2 in the 200 IM. McIlroy and Niall Richards went 1 and 3 in the 50 free, while Liu and Leo Wu picked up 2nd and 3rd in the 100 fly. Carroll handily won the 100 free with an impressive time and district consideration cut, while teammate Luke Sperling finished in 2nd place. Thompson added a victory in the 500 free, while Andrew Detwiler finished 3rd in that event. The 200 free A relay of Liu, Carroll, DiAddezio, and McIlroy and the B relay of Wu, Connor Kiebort, Richards, and Sperling outpaced the field finishing 1-2. Sperling and Richards went on to place 1-2 in the 100 back while DiAddezio was out-touched for the win in the 100 breast. In the final event, the 400 relay of Wu, Thompson, Richards, and Liu easily took home first place honors. In the diving competition, Mitch Goldman won the event, while senior Jack Hackett earned his first-ever district consideration score and second place.

We also celebrated our four graduating seniors at the meet - Akash Krishnan, Jack Hackett, Zach Fidlon, and Aidan McIlroy. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors!!

Up next, the East swimmers will compete in the JV Invitational at West Chester YMCA on Thursday, Feb 10th while another contingent of swimmers will head to the Varsity Scott Eliott championships on Saturday, Feb. 12th at West Chester University.
