East Continues Winning Streak beating Coatesville squad

The Downingtown East girls (4-0) and boys (4-0) beat the Coatesville Red Raiders today at the Lionville YMCA by scores of 99-78 (girls) and 97-23 (boys).


On the girl's side, junior Victoria Maki was the lone double winner taking home first-place points in the 200 IM and 100 fly. Other individual winners were Sydney Greene (200 free), Cady Kiebort (50 free), and Aubrey Wilson (100 backstroke). Top three finishers included Kate Gersback (200 free, 100 back), Melanie Liu (200 IM), Abby O'Donnell (200 IM), Ella Hagelauer (100 free, 100 breast), Adithi Kashyup (100 free), Reya Petrick (500 free), Ally Aceto (500 free), Elizabeth Kabatt (100 breast). All three relays took second place to Coatesville. In the girl's diving competition, Downingtown swept the points with freshman Rachal Laraio leading the way with 206.35 points. Courtney Jefferis was second and Gabby Aceto was third.


In the boy's meet, East placed first in every individual event and relay. Luke Sperling was a double winner in both the 200 IM and 100 back while Gabe Carroll picked up the

win and his first District consideration cut in the 50 free. Other individual event winners were Andrew Detwiler (200 free), Jack Thompson (100 fly), Matthew DiAddezio (100 free), Niall Richards (500 free), and George Liu (100 breast). The boys relays swept Coatesville with the 200 medley relay of Thompson, Liu, DiAddezio, and Carroll leading the charge in the first event and the 200 free relay of Jack Hackett, Leo Wu, Colin Drummond, and Aidan McIlroy touching the wall first. Mitchell Goldman and Jack Hackett placed 1-2 in the diving competition with Goldman scoring 228.05.


The East team will have two meets next week - on Wednesday 1/26 they will travel to Tel Hai to take on Bishop Shanahan and Thursday 1/27 will swim against West Chester Henderson at the West Chester YMCA.
