East beats Rustin; Laraio breaks own school record in diving

The East Cougars pulled out wins over West Chester Rustin last evening at the West Chester YMCA. The girls won by a score of 103-78 to move to 7-1 on the season and the boys remained undefeated at 8-0 with a 94-65 win over Rustin.


For the girls, the highlight of the meet was Rachel Laraio breaking her own school record in diving (for the third time this season) with a score of 257.30. She won the diving event, with teammate Courtney Jefferis taking third place. Seniors Victoria Maki and Alexa Fulton each won two individual events and teamed up for two winning relays. Maki won the 50 free and the 100 back with season-best times and Fulton won the 200 free and 100 fly. The duo paired up with Cady Kiebort and Finley Mulhern for both the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays. Kiebort added a win in the 200IM and a second-place finish in the 100 free, while Mulhern took second in the 50 free and third in the 100 breast. Freshman Hayley Heckler notched a win in the 500 free with teammate Adithi Kashyup taking the third spot. Other notable performances from the girls included a 2-3 finish by Ellie Reese and Sydney Greene in the 200 free, Aubrie Wilson (3rd in 200IM), Reya Petrick (3rd in 100 free, 3rd 100 back ), Lucille Obenski (2nd 100 back), and a 2nd place finish for the 400 free relay of Heckler, Greene, Petrick, and Reese.


The boys 200 medley relay of Niall Richards, Luke Respicio, Gabe Carroll, and Joseph Zeng kicked off their meet with a win while teammates Sam Sperling, Leon Dang, Leo Wu and Jack Thompson finished second. Sam Sperling and Thompson took the top two spots in the 200 free, while Carroll picked up wins in the 200 IM and 100 back. Sperling also won the 100 breaststroke later in the meet. Connor Kiebort was the winner of the 50 free and placed second to Thompson in the 100 free. The 200 free relay of Carroll, Respicio, Wu, and Thompson took first, while the B relay of Kiebort, Richards, Matt DiAddezio, and Ronak Suchindra finished second. The 400 free relay of Andrew Fulton, George Liu, Richards, and Kiebort picked up the win in the last event of the meet. Other noteworthy finishes for the boys included Luke Sperling (3rd 200 IM, 2nd 500 free ), Max Rasco (3rd 50 free), DiAddezio (2nd 100 fly, 3rd 500 free), Liu (3rd 100 fly), Fulton (2nd 100 back), Respicio (2nd 100 breast), and Dang (3rd 100 breast).


The team squares off for the last dual meet of the season against crosstown rival Downingtown West TOMORROW at 3:30PM at the Lionville YMCA.
