DEHS wins over Bishop Shanahan in first meet of the New Year

In their home pool tonight, both the Girls and Boys squads were victorious over Shanahan. The girls move to 3-1 while the boys remain undefeated at 4-0.


The girls teams saw some exciting relays with wins in both the 200 Medley (Lucille Obenski, Ava Sgarra, Kayla Terry & Whitney Kane) and the 200 Free (Sgarra, Terry, Ellie Reese & Kane.) East also picked up the second place finish in 200 Free Relay (Adithi Kashyap, Chloe Carroll, Chelsea Nguyen & Hayley Heckler.) Double event winners included Reese (100 Free & 200 Free) and Kane (200 IM & 500 Free.) Terry picked up 8 points with 2 second place finishes in 200 IM and & 100 Free. Sgarra touched first in 100 Fly.


In diving the girls finished 1,2,3 with a bit of a different line up: Avery Surden (186.30,) Kaylie Thompson (160.70) and Lauren Mohan (126.40.) East also had 2 exhibition athletes who turned in impressive scores: Jillian Fuchs (186.60) and Joya Mentrikoski (183.00.) And in an exciting "divers team" 200 Free relay, Fuchs, Mentrikowski, Surden & Thompson turned in a respectable 2:27.57.


The boys team boasted many best times tonight. Jack Thompson touched first in the 200 Free, with Charles O'Hara behind him in 2nd, and finished first in the 100 Free, adding his 3rd District Consideration time of the season. Gabe Carroll finished first in 200 IM adding his 4th District Consideration cut of the season - Sammy Engle touched behind him in 2nd place. Sam Sperling took first in 50 Free and added his 2nd District consideration in 100 Free. In the 500 Free, the east boys Paul Gately and Aanish Paranjpe finshed 2nd and 3rd, amassing 7 points for team. Matt DiAddezio touched first in 100 Fly, just shy of a District cut. The relays saw lots of line up changes tonight with the 200 Medley Team of Ahaan Nigram, DiAddezio, Joseph Zeng & Max Rasco touching first. The 200 Free teams finished 1, 2 & 3.

East is back in action on Wednesday 1/17 at 3:30 for their first away meet of the season against Coatesville.
