East Swimmers compete at PIAA State Champs meet

Updated: Sep 30, 2021

The 2020-21 East swim and dive season looked a lot different this year due to COVID, but nonetheless, the season culminated with a much smaller PIAA State Meet held at Cumberland Valley HS.

East sent sophomores Alexa Fulton and Victoria Maki and seniors, Grace Bousum, Lindsay Blake and Grace Noble to the meet as well as senior DJ Fechtman who qualified for the boys meet. This year, only 16 swimmers and relays were allowed to participate in each event making it very difficult to qualify.

Alexa Fulton won both the 50 free and 100 free events narrowly missing the school records in both events, and was the lead off leg of the 200 Free and 400 free relays, which finished 5th and 6th respectively. Grace Bousum, placed 7th in the 200 free and 11th in the 100 fly, and was the anchor leg of the 200 and 400 free relays. (Please note - Grace broke her own school record in the 100 fly at the District meet!).

The 200 Free relay of Fulton, Victoria Maki, Grace Noble and Bousum nabbed a 5th place medal, improving their time from the District meet two weeks ago. The 400 Free relay of Fulton, Maki, Lindsay Blake and Grace Bousum improved on their school record performance from Districts and placed 6th in a strong field. Overall, the girls team placed 5th in the state - one of the highest team standings in recent history.

DJ Fechtman was the lone male athlete to compete for East this year at States. He placed 12th in the 100 fly and 9th in the 100 back.

We wish all of our seniors good luck next year!
